Keep it neighborly

Community rules

Everything people send in is read before it goes up. Posts that follow these rules get posted. Posts that don't are never posted.

The rules

  1. Be kind. No name-calling, personal attacks, harassment, threats or hate.
  2. Keep it about the Valley. Events, places, outdoors, history, safety and community life.
  3. Firsthand only. Reports and reviews must be about something you saw or did yourself. No rumors.
  4. No private information. Don't post anyone's address, phone number, license plate or private details, and no photos of other people's children without a parent's OK.
  5. Your own photos. Only send photos you took or have permission to share.
  6. Honest reviews. Reviews are your real experience. Businesses may not review themselves or their competitors, and nobody may be paid or rewarded to write a positive review.
  7. No ads or spam. Businesses can be listed for free or sponsor a spot. Promotional posts are not posted.
  8. No campaigning. No endorsements or election campaigning on the community board.
  9. Respect private land. Don't share spots that require trespassing.
  10. Nothing illegal or unsafe.
  11. Wildlife and kids: never chase, feed or crowd animals for a photo, and give only a general area, never the spot of a nest, den or rare plant. Kids' work is sent by a parent or guardian and shown with first and last initials and a city only.
  12. Emergency reports: call 911 first, report only what you saw yourself, give cross streets or a landmark instead of a house number, and never post photos of injured or deceased people. Never put yourself in danger to get a photo.
  13. Recipes and boards: share recipes that are yours or say where they came from. On the garden and be-prepared boards, give advice you'd give a neighbor, and no selling.
  14. No false reports. Reporting a business as closed when it isn't, or posting a fake emergency, gets you blocked. Businesses can't report on other businesses.

How posting works

To post, check in, review or play, you sign in and agree to these rules and our terms. Every post is reviewed before it appears. Anything that breaks the rules is simply never posted. People who keep breaking the rules can be blocked from posting.

We don't change the words you write. If a post is mostly fine but includes private information, we may leave that part out or not post it.
